Many of us will have a favourite colour, even if we don’t think we do, we are naturally drawn to some colours more than others and this often extends to the colours we choose to decorate our home. While a lot has to do with fashion trends, if you are not a fan of terracotta then no matter how on trend it is, you are unlikely to want to paint your bedroom that colour!
Did you know that there is actually a study of colour known as colour psychology which looks at their effects on the body, the mind and our emotions? Apparently the most popular colour in the world is blue; it’s especially popular for men all over the world to wear. Women on the other hand, mostly prefer wearing black.
According to pseudo-scientists, blue is the colour of the sea and is associated with feelings of serenity and tranquillity. Those who choose it are said to be reliable and calm. On the negative it can be perceived as cold and unfriendly.
Red is bold and physical and is a colour that grabs our attention first. It’s perceived to be stimulating and lively but can also be seen as aggressive. Green is a popular colour, often used for bedrooms. It symbolises balance, peace and rest.
Yellow is associated with sunshine. It’s a popular colour for kitchens as it invokes energy and happiness. However, studies show that people are more likely to lose their temper in a yellow interior. Babies also seem to cry more in a yellow room and in large amounts; this colour tends to create feelings of frustration and anger in people!
Somewhere between black and white, grey is the colour that just can’t commit, and apparently the same goes for those who love it. From the perspective of colour psychology, grey is emotionless, boring, detached, and indecisive! However from a décor point of view, neutral schemes are flexible as they act as a good base for colour to liven them up.
Choosing a colour for your new chair is therefore an important one. With this in mind we are pleased to announce that we have now launched a new range of fabrics, the biggest change in our chair fabric range for five years.
It now includes new colours and textures bringing our range up to date in line with current trends and colours. Plus, we’ve introduced a bigger swatch size so our customers can see more of the pattern.
Currently our most popular fabric colour for our customers is burgundy red. According to the Pantone Colour Institute it’s a hearty yet stylish tone and in fact their Colour of the Year for 2015 is a slight variation on this called Marsala. So it would seem our customers are right on trend!
So whatever choice you make, you can be confident at Adjustamatic we have a fabric selection that will suit your room décor or your mood.
